Tyler is a native of Rapid City, South Dakota.  He attended the University of South Dakota, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2016 and Master of Arts degree in 2017 in medical biology.  He worked in the biomedical research industry for several years, before returning to the University of South Dakota to attend law school and receiving his J.D. degree in 2022.

While in law school, Tyler competed in trial team competitions across the country.  He was a graduate assistant with law school faculty, working to design and implement a hybrid legal-medical assistance clinic in eastern South Dakota.  He also served as a student ambassador for the law school.

Upon receiving his J.D. degree, Tyler was selected as a law clerk for the First Judicial Circuit in Mitchell, South Dakota, where he researched hundreds of cases to assist in drafting court opinions on several complex criminal and civil law cases, and assisted Judges with multiple jury trials within the First Circuit.

Tyler enjoys assisting the University of South Dakota School of Law Trial Team as an advocate coach, where he helps aspiring trial lawyers prepare for mock trial competitions across the country.  He also enjoys playing soccer and golf, cooking, watching sports, and spending time with his wife and dog.
